Project Bridge Engineer

A growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking a Project Engineer – Structural (Bridge) to join its established Bridge Department in Wall Township, NJ.

This opportunity is well suited to a bridge engineer with 5–8 years of experience who wants to strengthen their technical expertise while working on complex transportation infrastructure projects throughout New Jersey and the Northeast.

The successful candidate will contribute to bridge design, rehabilitation, replacement, load rating, and structural evaluation projects while working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary project teams. The position provides exposure to projects from preliminary engineering and design through construction support, with strong opportunities for continued technical and career development.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design for bridge and transportation structures, including new construction, rehabilitation, and replacement projects.
  • Prepare structural calculations, design plans, specifications, technical reports, and other engineering documentation.
  • Develop structural models and perform bridge analysis using industry-standard engineering software.
  • Perform and support bridge load ratings and structural evaluations.
  • Apply AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, NJDOT standards, and other applicable agency requirements.
  • Coordinate with roadway, geotechnical, hydraulic, environmental, and construction engineering teams.
  • Support project delivery by coordinating design activities and assisting with schedules and technical deliverables.
  • Participate in bridge inspections, field investigations, site visits, and data collection.
  • Review engineering drawings and design documentation for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Work alongside senior bridge engineers to develop solutions to technical and project challenges.
  • Assist with the development and mentoring of junior engineering staff as experience progresses.
  • Support proposal preparation, cost estimating, and other project pursuit activities when required.

  • Transportation infrastructure improvements

Projects will primarily support NJDOT, transportation authorities, counties, municipalities, and other public-sector transportation clients throughout New Jersey and the Northeast.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required.
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering preferred.
  • 5–8 years of progressive bridge design and structural engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Experience designing and analyzing bridge and transportation structures.
  • Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and NJDOT design procedures preferred.
  • Experience with bridge analysis and design software such as LEAP Bridge, LARSA, MIDAS, CSiBridge, STAAD, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Experience with bridge load ratings and structural evaluations is advantageous.
  • Strong structural analysis and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
