An established structural engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Recertification Engineer / Inspector to join its growing South Florida team.
This position is ideal for a structural engineer with experience in building inspections, recertification, Milestone Inspections, and Structural Integrity Reserve Studies (SIRS) who wants a role combining fieldwork, technical engineering, reporting, and client interaction.
The successful candidate will work on existing buildings throughout South Florida, supporting condominium associations, property owners, developers, contractors, and other clients with structural assessments and Florida-mandated inspection and recertification requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform building recertification inspections and prepare associated engineering reports and documentation.
- Conduct Milestone Inspections in accordance with Florida condominium safety requirements.
- Perform and support Structural Integrity Reserve Studies (SIRS).
- Conduct structural condition assessments of existing concrete, steel, masonry, timber, and other building systems.
- Perform special and threshold inspections where required.
- Identify structural deterioration, deficiencies, and potential repair requirements during field investigations.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, engineering recommendations, and recertification documentation.
- Prepare, sign, and seal engineering reports and documentation as appropriate.
- Coordinate with property owners, condominium associations, contractors, architects, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
- Manage project schedules, deliverables, and inspection milestones from initial assessment through final reporting.
- Ensure work complies with the Florida Building Code and applicable state and local inspection requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Minimum 4+ years of structural engineering, building inspection, restoration, or recertification experience.
- Experience with South Florida building recertification programs strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of Florida Milestone Inspection and SIRS requirements.
- Strong understanding of existing building structures and structural deterioration.
- Experience performing field inspections and preparing technical engineering reports.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and client relationships.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
