Position Overview
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in district heating and cooling systems, you will serve as a subject matter expert and technical leader. You will oversee the planning, design, analysis, and execution of complex district utility projects, including central plants and large-scale distribution networks. This role is ideal for a driven professional eager to mentor junior talent, collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams, and actively expand our established district energy practice.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Design

System Design: Lead the comprehensive planning and engineering design for district thermal systems, including hot water, chilled water, and steam distribution networks.

Engineering Analysis: Perform advanced engineering calculations, technical problem-solving, and detailed Life Cycle Cost Analyses, optimizing system performance and reliability.

Quality Assurance: Participate in rigorous design reviews to ensure all mechanical systems meet the highest standards of innovation, quality, and efficiency.

Field & Construction Services: Support on-site field investigations and system evaluations, and assist with construction phase engineering services to ensure alignment with site conditions.
Strategy, Mentorship & Growth

Business Development: Actively contribute to business development initiatives, client retention, and market expansion within the district utilities sector.

Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration: Partner with multidisciplinary engineering and architectural teams to seamlessly integrate mechanical utility systems into broader infrastructure projects.

Team Mentorship: Provide technical direction, career guidance, and engineering mentorship to junior staff.
Position Requirements

Experience: Minimum of 10 years of focused engineering experience specifically with district thermal utility systems (both generation and distribution systems).

Licensure: Active Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.

Leadership: Proven project management capabilities and a track record of technical team leadership.

Clearance: Must be eligible to work in the United States and capable of obtaining a federal security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications

Proven background in higher education facility infrastructure and master planning.

Experience supporting and delivering projects for federal government clients.

Familiarity with alternative energy designs, including geothermal or ambient loop systems.
