Senior Site Civil Engineer - Fully Remote

A growing civil engineering and land development firm is seeking a Senior Site Civil Engineer with 5+ years of experience to join its team. This is a fully remote position available to an engineer located within New York State.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in site development and civil engineering design and be capable of independently managing projects from initial concept and permitting through construction documentation and construction administration. Project types may include commercial, residential, institutional, municipal, mixed-use, and other land development projects.

This position provides an opportunity to take a leadership role in project delivery while collaborating remotely with clients, architects, surveyors, landscape architects, contractors, municipalities, and other engineering professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the design and delivery of site civil engineering and land development projects.
  • Perform and oversee site layout, grading and drainage, stormwater management, utility design, erosion and sediment control, and site infrastructure design.
  • Prepare and review conceptual plans, preliminary designs, construction documents, technical specifications, engineering reports, cost estimates, and permit applications.
  • Develop grading and drainage plans, utility plans, profiles, details, and related construction documentation.
  • Design and oversee stormwater management systems, including detention/retention systems, green infrastructure, water quality measures, and stormwater calculations.
  • Prepare and review erosion and sediment control plans and SWPPPs in accordance with applicable New York State requirements.
  • Design and coordinate water, sanitary sewer, and other utility infrastructure.
  • Coordinate with clients, architects, landscape architects, surveyors, environmental consultants, contractors, municipalities, and other project stakeholders.
  • Review and oversee the work of junior and intermediate engineers and designers, providing technical direction, quality control, and mentorship.
  • Participate in project meetings and communicate directly with clients, municipalities, regulatory agencies, and contractors.
  • Support permitting and agency coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide construction administration services, including submittal reviews, RFI responses, site observations, contractor coordination, and punch-list/closeout activities.
  • Review project deliverables for technical accuracy, constructability, code compliance, and quality.
  • Assist with project scopes, fee proposals, schedules, and business development efforts.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of civil engineering standards, workflows, and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant site civil engineering or land development experience.
  • New York State Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Strong technical knowledge of site development, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, and erosion and sediment control.
  • Experience preparing construction documents and engineering plans for site development projects.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Experience with stormwater modeling software such as HydroCAD, Hydraflow, or comparable programs preferred.
  • Familiarity with New York State and local municipal codes, standards, permitting requirements, and design practices.
  • Knowledge of NYSDEC stormwater regulations and SWPPP requirements preferred.
  • Experience coordinating with municipalities, regulatory agencies, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fully remote environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and resolve technical and design issues.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Salary Range

$110,000 – $150,000 annually, depending on experience, licensure, technical expertise, project management responsibilities, and qualifications.
