Senior Traffic Engineer

A leading engineering consulting firm is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to join its growing Transportation team in Edison, New Jersey.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced transportation professional to help build and shape an expanding in-house traffic engineering practice supporting major bridge, roadway, and infrastructure projects throughout New Jersey and New York.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee traffic engineering analyses including capacity analysis, signal analysis, intersection studies, and corridor evaluations
  • Lead development of Maintenance & Protection of Traffic (MPT) and staging plans for roadway and bridge projects
  • Prepare traffic control, signing, and pavement marking plans in accordance with DOT and MUTCD standards
  • Support traffic impact studies and operational improvement projects
  • Coordinate closely with civil, structural, and infrastructure teams to develop practical and constructible solutions
  • Participate in site visits, constructability reviews, and construction support activities
  • Serve as a technical lead on traffic-related assignments and mentor junior staff
  • Assist with proposals, client engagement, and business development initiatives

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or relevant degree.
  • NJ Professional Engineer (PE) license required; NY PE preferred or ability to obtain
  • 8+ years of traffic engineering experience with DOT project exposure
  • Strong background in MPT/staging and work zone traffic control
  • Experience with traffic analysis software such as Synchro, HCS, or VISSIM
  • Familiarity with NJDOT, NJTA, NYSDOT, and/or NYCDOT standards and procedures
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • PTOE certification preferred
