Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to support the growth of its transportation practice in Edison, NJ.

This role will lead traffic engineering efforts for bridge, roadway, and infrastructure projects throughout New Jersey and New York. The position offers the opportunity to provide technical leadership, mentor staff, support project pursuits, and help expand internal traffic engineering capabilities.

The ideal candidate is a well-rounded transportation professional who can collaborate across disciplines and deliver practical, constructible solutions from planning through final design and construction.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and review traffic analyses, including capacity, signal, intersection, and corridor studies.
  • Lead Maintenance & Protection of Traffic (MPT) and construction staging plans for bridge and roadway projects.
  • Develop traffic control, signing, and pavement marking plans in accordance with applicable NJDOT, NJTA, NYSDOT, NYCDOT, and MUTCD standards.
  • Lead or support traffic impact studies and operational improvement projects.
  • Coordinate with civil and structural engineers on staging and traffic control solutions.
  • Serve as a technical lead for traffic-related assignments.
  • Conduct site visits and constructability reviews.
  • Support agency coordination, client communication, and construction administration.
  • Contribute to proposals and business development initiatives.
  • Mentor junior engineering staff and support the development of internal traffic capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 8–25 years of traffic engineering experience, preferably including DOT projects.
  • NJ PE required; NY PE preferred or ability to obtain.
  • PTOE certification preferred.
  • Strong experience with MPT, staging, and work zone traffic control.
  • Experience with NJDOT, NJTA, NYSDOT, and/or NYCDOT standards and procedures.
  • Proficiency with Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, or similar traffic analysis software.
  • Signal design/timing experience preferred.
  • AutoCAD experience preferred; MicroStation a plus.
  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and mentoring skills.
