Senior Water Resources Engineer
Location: Edison, NJ
Overview
Our client is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to support the growth of its transportation and infrastructure practice in Edison, NJ.
This role will lead hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analysis and design for bridge, roadway, drainage, floodplain, and resiliency projects throughout New Jersey and New York. The position offers the opportunity to provide technical leadership, mentor staff, support project pursuits, and help expand the firm's water resources capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead H&H analyses for bridges, culverts, roadways, and drainage systems.
- Perform watershed and rainfall-runoff modeling using HEC-HMS, HydroCAD, or similar software.
- Develop and review HEC-RAS 1D/2D models for floodplain and open-channel analysis.
- Perform bridge hydraulic and scour analyses, waterway adequacy, and overtopping evaluations.
- Support floodplain, flood hazard, stormwater, and resiliency projects.
- Design and review drainage and stormwater management systems, including storm sewers, culverts, detention/retention, and green infrastructure.
- Prepare hydraulic, drainage, and stormwater reports for agency review.
- Coordinate with civil, structural, and transportation engineers to deliver integrated designs.
- Support permitting, construction administration, proposals, and business development.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical standards and QA/QC.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Water Resources preferred.
- 8–25 years of relevant experience, preferably with transportation/DOT projects.
- NJ PE required; NY PE preferred or ability to obtain.
- Experience with NJDOT, NJDEP, NYSDOT, and/or NYSDEC standards and permitting.
- Knowledge of NJDEP Flood Hazard Control Act and Stormwater Management Regulations.
- HEC-RAS proficiency required; HEC-HMS, HydroCAD, PondPack, or StormCAD experience preferred.
- Bridge hydraulic and scour analysis experience required.
- Strong technical writing, communication, project management, and mentoring skills.
