A well-established and growing multidisciplinary engineering firm is seeking an experienced Transportation Group Manager to lead and grow its combined Highway/Traffic and Bridge practices at its headquarters in Wall Township, NJ.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for a transportation professional with a strong technical background, proven project management experience, and a track record of developing people, building client relationships, and growing business.
The Transportation Group Manager will provide leadership across the Highway/Traffic and Bridge teams, overseeing project delivery, staff development, client relationships, business development, and the continued growth of the transportation practice. This position will work closely with executive leadership and other department managers to support the firm's overall strategic goals.
Responsibilities

Provide leadership and strategic direction for the Transportation Group, including Highway/Traffic and Bridge.

Lead, manage, and develop engineers, project managers, and technical staff.

Oversee project delivery, including scope, schedule, budget, staffing, quality, and client expectations.

Serve as a senior technical and project management resource on complex transportation projects.

Develop and maintain relationships with NJDOT, counties, municipalities, transportation authorities, and other key clients.

Participate in client meetings, presentations, interviews, and business development activities.

Identify new opportunities and help expand the firm's transportation client base and market presence.

Lead and support proposals, scopes, fee development, contracts, and project pursuits.

Monitor group workload, staffing, utilization, backlog, and financial performance.

Recruit, mentor, and retain transportation professionals while supporting career development and succession planning.

Promote collaboration between Highway/Traffic, Bridge, and other engineering disciplines.

Provide technical oversight and quality control for transportation projects and deliverables.

Ensure projects comply with applicable NJDOT, AASHTO, MUTCD, FHWA, and local agency requirements.

Assist with complex technical, contractual, staffing, and client issues.

Stay current on transportation industry trends, project opportunities, and the New Jersey market.

Represent the firm at industry events, professional organizations, conferences, and client meetings.

Support the continued growth and development of the Transportation Group.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.

Professional Engineer (PE) license required; New Jersey PE preferred.

15+ years of progressive transportation engineering experience.

Strong background in highway/traffic, bridge, structural, or related transportation engineering.

Experience managing complex transportation projects from planning and design through construction.

Previous experience leading engineering teams and managing Project Managers and technical staff.

Established relationships with NJDOT, counties, municipalities, transportation authorities, or other public-sector clients preferred.

Strong understanding of project management, budgets, schedules, staffing, and quality control.

Proven business development and client relationship management experience.

Strong proposal writing, presentation, and interview skills.

Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Ability to mentor, motivate, and develop engineering professionals.

Strong understanding of the New Jersey transportation market and public-sector procurement process.

Ability to manage multiple projects, clients, and priorities in a fast-paced consulting environment.
